Susan Sanders - Alexandria VA
I am an industrial designer by training and apply those principles to wearable art. I focus on good design and functionality, which means that in addition to being aesthetically appealing, pieces need to be light, comfortable, and wearable with a wide range of clothing styles. My pieces are bold, usually geometric and often asymmetric. Influences include contemporary architecture and early 20th century art, particularly Constructivism. I incorporate hand work with high technology, with materials ranging from hand made felt to 3D printed nylon to cast precious metals. Color, pattern and textures are important features, and may be achieved with dyes paints, anodizing or colored stone inlay.
