Kathy King- Cary NC
To begin, I mount bundles of wire into walnut. Working with the golden-ratios found in nature, the wires are organically tied and curved. Through this repetition I grow the sculpture into a unique tree form.I now lay central bundles and weave them together in a structural and mirrored beginning. Moving outward with my process, each quarter becomes unique but similar. Patina on different layers of bronze highlight the delicate feathery radius of each layer. The natural patterns guide viewers to connect in spiritual and emotional ways. From crosses and thorns to ancient forms, a common emotional ground is the celebration of life, joy, and the ever-after. I cold-work wire without sketches or templates. My layered technique, rooted in natural methods, creates sculptures with geometric complexity. The final layer of shadows gently connect the sculpture to her surroundings.
