Our Mixed Media, one-of-a-kind sculptural vessels employ pottery, basketry and metalworking techniques and incorporate clay, fiber, metal, semi-precious gemstones and other materials. Starting with a thrown and altered vessel, the piece is glazed and fired Raku. Metal leaf is applied to the inside and embellishments are created and attached. The piece may stand alone, as is, or may form a base to which spokes are attached using stone or glass beads and waxed linen. Fiber is then dyed and woven onto the spokes and the piece is decorated with metal and other materials as desired. This work is about relationships: how we relate to each other's work and to the materials.The challenge is to marry all of these different and subtly complex characteristics into an elegant, original, harmonious whole.
