Katherine Houston is a living artist working in an 18th century technique, adapting the techniques and masterful creations of the past with a 21st century approach to design and technicality. She is one of the few artists in the world carrying on a tradition of hand sculpting hard paste porcelain, decorated with a broad range of color over glazes. Ms. Houston is directly influenced by ancient Imperial and Chinese wares and those of 18th century Meissen and Sèvres. Her work is predominantly botanical themes – fruits, vegetables, leaves and flowers. Her painstaking attention to detail, her devotion to the exploration of color and depth of palette, and her earthy yet elegant designs have established her as a preeminent artist in the field.
